I’m led to the secure room downstairs that all large corporations now have for private conversations with the NOBS. Another agent with gold epaulettes is waiting for me and tells me to sit.
“We’re told that your group was responsible last night for 31 Orgs. Quite a lot for a Monday.”
“We have a special assignment.”
“You know we always have a look at large groups of employees having these kinds of numbers.”
“Yes. But, in this case, we’re only doing our job. We have an issue with quality control.”
“QC? Robox has the best lovebots in the business! Endorsed by The Family! Most popular models in the world! The other thing that got our attention is everybody else had multiple Orgs, except you.”
“Uh, yes. I was investigating a particular driver.”
“Yet, we don’t have the driver’s number. And you left a $1,000 tip in bitcoin. No way to trace who it went to.”
“She was helping me find the QC problem. Have you checked with Bot Records? It wasn’t stored locally, either, when I checked right afterwards. Must be another issue we weren’t aware of.”
“Do you think it’s strange that the session length was recorded, but not the driver ID?”
“Yes, but they’re in two different locations in the recording program.”
“So what was the original QC problem?”
“If you don’t know, I’m not at liberty to tell you. Due to possible damage it may cause to the company’s reputation.”
“We will get clearance. It’s only a matter of time. We have to be vigilant, watching over everyone to keep our high standards.”
I almost start talking about how the latest lovebots are showing an increase in damage claims, but, again, that’s above his security clearance.
Before I can decide what to say next, the interrogator continues, “In the meantime, we do have an abnormally long duration of lovebot usage. And we will require you to attend the next counseling session for NOBS counseling.” Handing me a piece of paper, “There’s one in your neighborhood tomorrow. Be there.”
“Seriously?”
“Only The Family and top level advisors are exempt. You know that.”
“OK. Well, it’s not too far from my place downtown. Anything else?”
“Not for now. We’ll be in touch later.”
